Bill Hall Candidate Statement

Candidate Statement – Elect Bill Hall

I’m running for the HACH Board because I care about our community, and I believe we can all make a difference together. My wife, Karen, and I have lived in Cedar Hills for 25 years and raised our two children here. We’ve enjoyed the companionship of wonderful neighbors and friends, a spectacular living environment, and the good fortune of the association’s hard work in preserving the beauty of our neighborhood. I would like to give back.

We are living in unprecedented times. We are facing the challenge of creating a cohesive, welcoming community during a pandemic—keeping physical distance while strengthening our connections and interdependence. Times are changing, and I believe we need to change with them.

Enforcing our CC&Rs is an essential function of the board, and I would like to take a fresh look at how we use our legal team, spend our budget, and how we prioritize mediation and volunteer assistance, as well as non-compliance penalties. The Board is making progress in changing the tenor of communication with our members. I support looking for ways to create a more positive and supportive dialogue with and between neighbors, and to create a welcoming community for everyone.

With this in mind, I would like the board to increase its support of the new Activities Committee and invest in ways to develop neighborhood cohesiveness and resilience, such as partnering with neighborhood volunteer groups like Cedar Hills Ready! and Honoring Our Precious Elders. Community engagement, neighbors helping neighbors, and people having fun together builds adaptable, lasting neighborhoods.

As we adjust to changes in technology and disasters like the COVID-19 outbreak, I would like to see the Association simplify operations, record keeping, and transparent communication by adopting easily available software and internet solutions and making improvements to our website. These changes are essential in improving communication and safety in our community.

What I bring to the board includes business leadership, community engagement experience, and a sense of humor:

·         I co-founded a thriving technology-based content-development business in 2002; we are well versed in the latest communication techniques and technologies.

·         I was elected to the Ridgewood Elementary Local School Committee and spent 10 years leading strategic planning and whole-child education projects for the Beaverton School District.

·         With Karen, and many of our neighbors, I helped design and develop Cedar Hills Ready!, a grassroots neighborhood readiness initiative with the mission to create caring, connected, and resilient neighborhoods. We have partnered with volunteers, HACH, and over 20 community organizations to produce free educational programs for our neighbors. We are continuing to initiate Map Your Neighborhood and disaster preparation projects in Cedar Hills, as we move to online formats.

·      I have a really good dog named Bean. Woof.

Listening is one of the most powerful tools of leadership. I believe in people, and I know how to engage our neighbors in articulating common interests and translating them into common action. Vote for me, and together, we can build a better community.
